They go a bit potty across the ditch every year when Wynns Coonawarra Estate launch their annual release of wines – they even called it ‘Wynnsday’, cheesy or what! The Coonawarra (Aboriginal for ‘honeysuckle’) is a region from South Australia famous for its world class Cabernet, and Wynns were one of the first to plant the stuff in the Coonawarra.
In the line-up is “The Siding” Cabernet, named after a railway siding in the area – an important local landmark that helped ship around 600 hogsheads of wine a year to nearby Adelaide in the early settlement days.
A Double Gold medal winner. The Wynns crew sum up this one nicely when they say “medium bodied with gentle tannins and finishes with a lovely, soft persistence of fruit.”
