Gatito Loco is the crazy cat doing crazy things in one of the world’s most famous (and traditional) wine making regions – Rioja in Spain.

This wild pussy cat is part of a ‘new wave’ of Rioja producers trying their hand (paw?) at a slightly different way of Rioja red wine. Their focus is on the vineyard and the fruit, not the winery and oak barrels.

Still using the traditional Rioja grape varieties of Tempranollo (temp-rah-knee-oh), Garnacha (also called Grenache in some parts) and Graciano – this is a youthful, vibrant, bright, juicy style Rioja red that’s had just a small amount of time in barrel (six months) and finishes silky and smooth.

Be a cool cat and bust out some new wave Rioja wine with your mates this weekend – it’s sure to impress ’em and certainly intrigue the more traditional Rioja wine lover.
