Elephant Hill set the bar pretty high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boasts one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ!

The Elephant Hill “Icon” range is the absolute pinnacle of wine making at Elephant Hill and only ever released in the greatest vintages. With their meticulous standards you know it has to be better than good, it has to be near damn perfect!

Hieronymus is the name of the Bordeaux blend produced under their “Icon” range and this is from the awesome 2014 Hawke’s Bay vintage! So you can imagine what you get when you combine a world class Hawke’s Bay producer with crazy high standards and the greatest Hawke’s Bay vintage of all time – wine fit for a king! Or a lord mayor. Hieronymus is actually a nod to a famous ancestor of the Weiss family, Hieronymus Ebner von Eschenbach who was Lord Mayor of Nuremberg in the 16th century.

Produced using the very best fruit (46% Merlot, 44% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) from their Gimblett Gravels and Triangle vineyards and aged for 27 months in French oak.

5 Stars, 96/100 (Bob Campbell MW) – “Approachable now but promises to age very well indeed”

5 Stars (Michael Cooper MW) – “Already delicious, but very ageworthy, it should break into full stride 2020+”

5 Stars, 97/100 (Sam Kim) – “A stunning red delivering mouthfilling texture and delectable flavours”

5 Stars, 19.5/20 (Raymond Chan) – “A wine to go 15 years easy”

Hieronymus is a cellar worthy red for all fine wine snobs or. wine lovers with deep pockets. The Elephant Hill crew reckon this can be cellar for 15 years plus from vintage. Extremely limited stocks, secure your little piece of Hawke’s Bay wine history.
