They go a bit potty across the ditch every year when Wynns Coonawarra Estate launch their annual release of wines – they even called it ‘Wynnsday’, cheesy or what! The Coonawarra (Aboriginal for ‘honeysuckle’) is a region from South Australia famous for its world class Cabernet, and Wynns were one of the first to plant the stuff in the Coonawarra.

In the line-up is their iconic blend of the three most famous red varieties planted across the ditch – Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot. They’ve slapped a red stripe across the label to reflect the Coonawarra terra rossa strip, they reckon it’s some of the best viticultural soil in the world. Talking about soil doesn’t really spin our wheels if we’re honest, but the wine behind the label definately does. Medium bodied, rich, plush red that’s rammed with loads of soft, rich red fruit flavours. An absolute classic!

“Often my go-to wine when lost in a bottle shop” says Aussie wine guru James Halliday.

This latest 2019 release got a 90/100 rating with Halliday who said this: “It must be said straight off the bat that the price combined with the pedigree of this wine is compelling. Even more so when you put it in your mouth. Perfectly speaking of the cabernet blend that it is, and tailing out far longer than it has any right to do at such a low price, this is very smart mid-week drinking.”
