    Mama Mia! No longer available!

Chianti is at the heart of Italian wine and at the heart of Chianti is Chianti Classico!

Understanding Italian wine rules and regions is a bit of a minefield, so here’s a quick school up of this world famous wine and region.

Pronounced “key-an-tee”, there are eight sub regions within the Tuscan region of Chianti that are allowed to produce a wine labelled Chianti (they have to follow strict Italian wine laws that means at least 75% of the grape must be Sangiovese ). The truest (and usually better quality) examples of Chianti come from the sub regions Chianti Classico and Chianti Rufina, because they’re made in smaller quantities and enjoy a warm climate and clay based soils for bolder examples of the variety.

Lesson over. So what’s the wine like? Good. Blood good! It actually reminded us what a true Chianti should be like – medium bodied, dry red, full of dark fruit and herby, savoury flavours.
